Introduction to Sound Healing
15-hour training for teachers and students
Taught By: Sara Schwartz, LSW
of Undercurrent Sound Healing
This 15-hour introductory training provides participants with a foundational understanding of sound healing and the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to facilitate accessible and inclusive sound experiences for individuals and groups.
Through a combination of instruction, demonstration, experiential learning, and hands-on practice, you will:
Explore the history and cultural context of sound healing, including an introduction to Indigenous, ancestral, and ancient traditions that have used sound and vibrational modalities for healing, connection, ritual, and community care.
Develop an introductory understanding of the science of sound and its relationship to the nervous system, including emerging research on the physiological, psychological, emotional, and holistic effects of sound-based practices.
Explore the integration of sound healing into yoga teaching and other wellness practices, including how sound can be thoughtfully incorporated into yoga and restorative wellness practices to support relaxation and nervous system regulation.
Develop foundational skills for playing sound healing instruments, including Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, Indigenous/traditional instruments, and voice. Participants will learn basic techniques for producing, sustaining, layering, and transitioning between sounds.
Learn foundational principles of sound healing facilitation, including how to structure an individual or group sound experience, prepare a space, select and sequence instruments, and guide participants through transitions.
Practice facilitating individual and group sound baths through guided experiential practice, peer facilitation, observation, and feedback.
Build confidence and self-awareness as emerging sound healing facilitators, developing the ability to make intentional choices about sound, pacing, environment, and facilitation while recognizing the scope and limitations of an introductory sound healing practice.
